First Holy Communion

First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

After spending time with us in the atrium, working with materials and listening to the Word proclaimed, the children begin to realize that the Good Shepherd feeds them in a most particular way- through the Holy Eucharist. Catechists in the Atrium classroom look for those moments of realization and take note. When the time comes, those children are invited to discern if they are desire to receive their First Holy Communion. The child is given the choice.

Once the child has chosen to enter into the Sacrament Preparation, they, along with their parents, will prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and first Holy Communion. During this time the children will drawn to think about the Forgiving Father (also known as the Prodigal Son) and the meaning of the parable of the True Vine.

There are 6 sessions of Sacrament Preparation and one all day retreat in which children finalize their preparation for receiving First Eucharist.

The first Sunday in May is reserved for the First Holy Communion, so if you are a parent who plans ahead, mark your calendar.
